Synopsis
'Augmented space is also monitored space...' - Lev Menovich
This project aims to investigate the intangible and imperceptible domain of machine-interpreted spaces, which has become increasingly complex and ubiquitous in the era of AI-enhanced surveillance and machine learning.
Through exploring spatial digital artefacts and delving into this multi-dimensional realm, I seek to uncover the potential implications and possibilities for design in the age of AI-enhanced surveillance. This research constitutes a critical component of the design process that gave rise to the project 'The 2nd Border'.

The realm of digital technology is no longer confined to the screens of our computers and phones. It has become ubiquitous, permeating every aspect of our physical world in ways that are often invisible and intangible. Augmented reality has the power to reveal these digital artefacts, creating a new layer of experience that occupies our built spaces through our mental reality.
Unity and Vuforia were used to develop the AR tool to reveal the digital artefacts. The development process suggested a host of implications of machine vision regarding data collection and target recognition that became a critical component of my thesis Virtually Physical Immaterial: an Appraisal of AR in Architecture.
