SYNOPSIS
Is our perceived reality the absolute truth so that the machine's perception is false? The fragments are frozen states of a morphing process between 3D-scanned architectures - Hong Kong’s traditional street store (Dai Pai Dong); the interior of Hong Kong’s Mass Transit Railway (MTR); and a tight alleyway in Kowloon.
The fragments that I have captured represent seeds of 'in-between-ness', reflecting the blurred boundaries between digital and physical, artificial and organic, imagined and real, and architecture and art. As I plant these fragments in various physical locations, I am creating a tangible representation of the digital world, questioning the very nature of what is real and imagined.
The work stemmed from my research and design project and expanded to become an ongoing personal project beyond my academic years. Through this project, I hope to challenge our understanding of reality and invite viewers to question their own perception of the world around them.

The work stemmed from a collaboration between a human (me) and a machine during my Master's academic research at UCL.
In the context of facial recognition, machine learning, and AI-enhanced surveillance, the objects presented prompt the question: do they still embody the essence of Hong Kong? These fragments serve as contemplations of the increasingly ambiguous identity of both humans and spaces in the age of machine learning and AI-enhanced surveillance. I aim to stimulate meaningful discourse about the impact of technological advancements on our understanding of identity and space.
