Synopsis
'Lost' is a looping piece that emerged from my quick experiments with procedural asteroids in Houdini. These tests were initially inspired by the stunning imagery of the comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko captured by the Rosetta Spacecraft.
It was only after creating the spinning asteroids that the idea of the lost astronaut came about. To create the looping artwork, I employed the same camera and lighting techniques as the asteroid tests. Through this process, I gained a deeper understanding of rigging, texturing, and animation, further honing my skills in these areas.

The motion of spinning is communicated solely through the interplay of light, which also exposes the three-dimensionality of the uneven and flawed surfaces. It also creates an atmosphere inherently space-like when the lighting is highly directional and the shadows are sharp and contrasted.
Animating a character proved considerably more complex than the previously motionless asteroids. In addition to the animation, I devoted much attention to the sound design of the piece. I firmly believe that sounds play a major role in storytelling, yet it is a facet that is often overlooked by artists and architects.
